This is the privacy page for QTW Do Drop Inn News (https://news.qtw-dodropinn.com), one of five sites run by QTW Do Drop Inn. It covers what is particular to this site. What all five sites have in common, including accounts, the email we send, backups, your choices and how to contact us, is in the main Privacy Policy.

We do not show advertising, we do not use an outside analytics service, and we do not sell personal information.

When you read without an account

Our web server keeps a log of each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested and the type of browser. We use it to keep the site running and to spot abuse. These logs are kept for 14 days.

We set a few small cookies in your browser:

Your browser also keeps a few notes of its own: whether you have seen the reading-time notice, and how much reading time you have used this week. A report you write on the Report Misinformation page is kept only in your own browser. It is not sent to us.

Emoji are drawn using small images loaded from WordPress.org, which means WordPress.org’s server sees your IP address when a page loads.

Videos and links to sources

Video stories are shown in an embedded YouTube player. When you open a page with a video, YouTube’s servers see your IP address, and if you play the video YouTube may store its own cookies and data in your browser. The Listen button reads a story aloud using your browser’s own speech feature.

When you choose to read the full article you leave this site for the original source. Those sites have their own privacy rules.

When you create an account here

The sign-up form asks for a username, an email address, a password, your birth year and month, and your state or region. We use your age and state to show voting information that fits you, such as whether you can register early, and to adapt some features to your age group. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over: the sign-up form does not offer a birth year for anyone younger.

When you are signed in we store, with your account:

A news list is private unless you choose to share it. Sharing creates a link, and anyone who has that link can see the list’s name and its stories. If you ask the site to email a list to you, it is sent to your account’s email address.

When you suggest a source

We store the source’s name and web addresses, your email address if you give one, and your IP address, and the suggestion is emailed to the people who run the site.

Everything else

For accounts, the email we send, how long we keep things, backups, your choices and how to reach us, see the main Privacy Policy. Cookies used across the sites are described in the Cookie Policy.
