Trump Tries PANICKED Immunity SCHEME as DESPERATION SETS IN!!!

Attorneys Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian break down a one-page addendum buried in Trump’s IRS settlement that “forever bars and precludes” the IRS from auditing Trump, his family, or the Trump Organization for any tax year before the settlement date. The addendum was signed unilaterally by Acting AG Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal defense attorney. The IRS had an open audit on a Chicago real estate deal that could have resulted in $100 million in unpaid tax liability. That audit is now closed. Brian and Shant walk through why this is almost certainly illegal. Internal Revenue Code Section 7217 makes it a federal crime for any executive official to direct the IRS to close a specific taxpayer’s audit. The DOJ has no authority over the IRS, which falls under the Treasury Department, making the addendum unenforceable on its face. A Watergate special counsel called it fraud on the court. Multiple legal scholars have called it a de facto self-pardon. The Treasury Department’s top lawyer, a Senate-confirmed Trump appointee, resigned over the deal. Brian gives it a 75% chance of being set aside by the courts. Brian’s new litmus test for whether someone has fully drunk the MAGA Kool-Aid: ask them if they think this is okay. If they say yes, they’re gone.
