Oil prices climbed sharply on Thursday, hitting their highest levels since the outbreak of war, as fears intensified that the conflict involving Iran could persist and further strain global energy supplies. The international benchmark, Brent crude, rose above $126 per barrel.
Fuel costs are also rising. According to AAA, the average price of gasoline in the United States reached $4.30 per gallon, marking the highest level since the conflict in the Middle East began on February 28 and the steepest prices seen since July 2022.
Overall, U.S. drivers are now paying about $1.32 more per gallon than they were before the war started. Prices vary significantly by region, with California experiencing the highest costs in the country, where the statewide average hit $6.01 per gallon on Thursday. Anthony Davis reports.
