Palestinian-American Singer-Songwriter Intisaar Jubran
Nationwide, the singer-songwriter field is, sadly, peopled with more mediocrities than stars. So when one comes along with the instrumental deftness, lyrical gravitas, and expressive voice of Intisaar Jubran, you gotta pay respect and attention. From her first single, 2009βs βTamarindβ on, the Palestinian-Americanβs been creating tough and tender folk-pop, displaying a delicate fluidity on acoustic guitar and singing with a warm radiance.
On the 2012 Intisaar EP and 2015 debut album Borrowed Ground, Intisaar developed a pensive, orchestral sound that rewards deep listening, with help from cellist Natalie Mae Hall (whoβs worked with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and the Eagles, among others). On the mic, Intisaar possesses a Joni Mitchell-esque penchant for the unexpected chord and vocal leap and dip and, at crucial moments, a Jeff Buckley-like flair for glossolalia.
Now a trio with the in-demand Greg Ferguson (Western War, Juno, etc.) behind the drum kit, this iteration of Intisaar makes its debut on Noise Complaint and will perform at Clock-Out Lounge on November 14 for the fourth edition of the Radio Gaza fundraiser benefiting Heal Palestine (radiogaza.org).
