Supreme Court Expands Presidential Power, Which Will be Wielded by a Dem President come Jan. 2029
With its newly released opinions, the Supreme Court continues its democracy-busting rampage, expanding presidential power beyond all common β and constitutional β sense.
Well friends, guess what, a Democrat will occupy the White House come January 2029. And these expanded powers will be at that president’s full disposal. And he/she better use EVERY DAMN ONE!Β
Yes, those powers must be wielded lawfully, ethically, and honorably. But every last ounce of presidential power will be needed for the cleanup, reform, and accountability mission that will begin in earnest on January 20, 2029.
Gone are the days that we let timidity and legal navel-gazing paralyze Department of Justice leadership.
Gone are the days that we decline to hold criminal politicians, cabinet members, and judges/justices accountable for their crimes, born of some misguided notion that if we prosecute criminals who carry a certain letter next to their name β an R or a D β or a certain title before their name – like βJusticeβ – that somehow holding them accountable for their crimes constitutes improper retribution, or what propagandists call βweaponization.β
Let’s be honest friends, anytime a Republican is prosecuted for his or her crimes, the Republican party – as presently constituted – will cry foul.Β
But recall that wasn’t the case when Richard Nixonβs goons were prosecuted for their crimes against the American people. Sure, there was some early grousing from Republicans. But once the evidence was revealed – the Nixon tapes – it was the Republicans who told Nixon, βresign or be impeached.βΒ
Come January 20, 2029, criminal investigations, and, if the evidence supports it, prosecutions, must aggressively be pursued, based on facts, law, and the constitution, and in an entirely apolitical fashion. But, those investigations need to take off like a rocket, moving 100 miles an hour in the direction of accountability for the crimes that have been perpetrated by Trump and company.Β
Moreover, itβs time to pursue real Supreme Court reform. We blew that previously when we had the opportunity. And look at where we are now: being victimized by Supreme Court justices who violate financial disclosure laws, lie during their Senate confirmation hearings in their desperation to get to the Supreme Court and do the exact opposite of what they testified they would do. And, in the process, departing from (indeed, making a mockery of) the express text of the Constitution, even though they’ve spent their careers trying to dupe the American people into believing they were βtextualists.βΒ
Our unwillingness to lift a finger to reform an obviously broken Supreme Court has brought us to this exact dark and dangerous place in our nationβs history.Β
If we squander the opportunities that will be available to us come January 2029 – opportunities to hold today’s ruling class criminals accountable, opportunities to engage in true Supreme Court reform – then I’m not sure we deserve to keep our republic. And frankly, whether we will deserve to keep our republic or not, absent accountability, I fear that it may be impossible to keep our republic.Β
So let’s start the accountability mission by getting to the polls during the midterms in numbers too big to rig and too real to steal. And then let’s do the same come November 2028 in the presidential election. We owe it to our ancestors who fought for the rights that are now being eroded and/or outright revoked by a corrupt Supreme Court majority. And we owe it to our children and our grandchildren to do everything we can to give them, at a bare minimum, the opportunities that their parents and grandparents had in what was a once great nation now in decline.Β
