Slog AM: Trump Says He’ll Stop Funding Israel, Polls Predict a Bad Night for Republicans, and Vote! It’s Election Day! GO VOTE!!!

Vote! Today is Election Day! Here in Seattle, taxing the rich is on the ballot, but so is protecting our young people from creepy, crotch-obsessed monsters. Our endorsements are here, and our cheat sheet is here. If you haven’t voted yet, do not use the mail today! Use a ballot box. Your ballot has to be INSIDE A BALLOT BOX by 8 p.m. tonight. Find your nearest one here! Didn’t get a ballot? Didn’t register to vote in time? You can still vote in person today at one of several vote centers. 

Join us for live election coverage tonight! Starting at 6 p.m., follow along on Slog as we eavesdrop and eat our fill of Costco fruit plates at election night parties around town. We’re keeping a very close eye on the initiatives, in which Brian Heywood and Let’s Go Washington “convince people much poorer than them to defend their wealth and prevent their millionaire money from being used for the benefit of society.” I wonder if he cries at night because he’s not a billionaire like all his other rich, soulless besties? 

Trump keeps trying to get states to withhold ballots, but judges keep telling him to knock it off. His newest trick is sending 1,000 “election monitors” to all 50 states. Here in Washington, three immigrant and labor groups are calling Trump’s antics what they are: voter intimidation.

Republicans also have a hotline set up where people can call and report what they believe to be fraudulent voting. For instance, James Talarico’s challenger, Ken Paxton, says he’s heard reports of felons voting!? Gasp! Who’s gonna tell him?

Here’s hoping. Polls and prediction markets suggest the Republicans are gonna have a bad night.

Remember that RV permit program the city council passed last month? The one that required large vehicles to obtain a permit to park for more than two hours? The one that also required, even with a permit, that the vehicles move every 72 hours? Yesterday, Mayor Katie Wilson vetoed that sucker.  

The SPD’s East Precinct on Capitol Hill is getting a “$2.2 million mechanical overhaul.” Local teachers have to use their own money for school supplies for their classrooms, but okay.

Dogs on trains! Dogs on trains! Sound Transit launched a new pilot program allowing leashed dogs on light rail and Sounder trains. Cats are also allowed if they’re in a carrier.

Queen Anne residents are fighting with the fire department over street parking. The fire department says they have experienced “significant delays” when they have to drive along a portion of 14th Avenue West. There’s not enough room for their trucks to get through when cars are parked on the side of the street. But some residents say they don’t care. They should be able to park their giant Ford F-150 in front of their house even if it means everyone burns up. Idiots.

Trump says he’s gonna stop funding Israel. He said on Fox and Friends that he told Netanyahu that the US gives Israel $4 billion a year and that’s going to stop at the end of 2026 “because they don’t need it.” Interesting timing. Is this a last-ditch effort to sway on-the-fence voters? Is it a bald-faced lie? Or is it the ramblings of a mentally declining narcissist? You decide!

LOL Stephen Miller tried to pay tribute to Patrick Stewart and Wil Wheaton told him to “keep my Captain’s name out of your fucking Nazi mouth.” And that “he despised you, and everything you stand for.”

Help keep Push/Pull open! It’s been a rough couple of years for my favorite local art store, and they need some help from the community to break even. I love Push/Pull so much. I have made a goofy monster, taken block carving classes, and bought too many fancy pens. Consider throwing a few bucks their way. If only so I can keep taking art classes there because I haven’t done the pet portrait one yet and that’s next on my list!
