Election Day in America. A Conversation with Tad Stoermer
Keeps playing with the screen off. The episode is played from PoliticsGirlβs own podcast host.
Historian Tad Stoermer reminds us the work we have to do doesnβt end on election day, it starts on election day. That this is just the beginning of accountability. So even if we get all the way to January 3rd, with the new congress is seated, it will still be up to us to hold those in power responsible, and make sure those who have broken the law, our institutions, and our constitutional order are finally held to account. This, as Tad says, is our “in the mirrorβ moment. A time to decide who we really are, what we truly believe, and what is no longer acceptable to us. Itβs reconciliation versus reconstruction. Do we want to kiss and make up so we can go back to how it was, or do we want to acknowledge what happened so we can truly move forward and build something better?
