What If This Was All Different? : A Conversation with Nick Hanauer
Keeps playing with the screen off. The episode is played from PoliticsGirlβs own podcast host.
What could our country look like if we chose to do things differently? We know what we have is broken, so what if we build something new? As our guest Nick Hanauer says, Americaβs problems donβt just stem from political dysfunction, media fragmentation, or this us v. them tribalism that weβre all drawing in. While these are all real problems, in Nickβs mind, it all comes back to economics. As soon as we stopped believing that hard work equaled security, a good life, and the opportunity to move up, our faith in the system collapsed. That collapse left the door open for truly terrible/authoritarian alternatives. It allowed a bunch of nefarious people to came along and promised to fix everything or at least give you someone to blame. No. We can do WAY better than that. Fix the economy. Fix the country.
