Your daily news roundup starts … NOW.

It’s been seven months since VA nurse Alex Pretti was shot and killed by ICE officers in Minneapolis, and his family is still short on answers from the government. In an interview with Good Morning America, his mother Susan Pretti expressed disbelief at how the investigation into her son’s death has been handled.

β€œI was not shocked that he helped somebody. My shock is that he was murdered and no one has given us the complete truth or anyone has been held accountable. And it’s been seven months,” she said.

Shortly after his death, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called him an β€œassassin” and a β€œdomestic terrorist.”

While ICE arrests in Minnesota have returned to pre-Operation Metro Surge levels (fewer than 250 arrests have been made between March and July) the overall level of such arrests is peaking around the country. In July, ICE made 50,000 arrests, the highest monthly total of the second Trump administration.

A federal judge in Texas is expected to rule sometime today on whether to compel Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to send ICE agent Christian Castro to Minnesota to face charges in the shooting and wounding of a Venezuelan man in January. Abbott claims there is an ongoing investigation into whether Castro is in fact a fugitive. Tommy Lee Jones was reached for comment.

A district court judge has ruled in favor of Anoka County, finding that $6 million of transportation funding was wrongfully redirected to the city of Anoka for the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Rum River. Apparently this project also would have turned the dam into a white-water attraction. Action Park could not be reached for comment.Β

If you hear anything about fraud in Minnesota, it’s likely to come along with the number $9 billion, which apparently came from a single ballpark-figure quote from late last year. So far the amount is more in the $500 million range, with most of that tied to the Feeding Our Future case. It would take 30 cases the size of that case to add up to $9 billion. Colon Blow provided this comment.

And finally: We may have all moved on to the race between Rep. Lisa Demuth and Sen. Amy Klobuchar for governor, but Mike Lindell has not. After demanding a recount of the race he lost by 45,000 votes to Demuth, Lindell is now withholding payment for said recount. Ferris Bueller was reached for comment.
