Reform politicians have meltdown over Farage scandals

Nigel Farage’s many scandals are becoming increasingly unmanageable for Reform UK. This is why we’ve seen a string of interviews over the past 24 hours which can only be described as a cry for help.

Reform is a party in meltdown

In the clip above, Robert Jenrick insists that Farage has done β€˜nothing wrong’ in regards to his Β£5 million gift scandal. On that topic, we previously reported:

Farage accepted the Β£5m gift from Harborne – a crypto billionaire – in 2024. At the time, he’d said he wouldn’t run in the general election, but this changed after he received the Β£5m. The problem is that after he became an MP, he was supposed to declare any β€˜registrable benefits’ from the previous 12 months. Farage did not declare the Β£5m, and now it looks like he was purposefully trying to hide it.

Reform’s excuses on this front are all over the place. In the interview above, Jenrick attempted to deflect by raising a variety of other news stories related to rival political parties. The interviewer noted that Jenrick was dancing between β€˜lots of stories’, with Jenrick insisting β€˜it’s all the same story’. In response, Channel 4’s man said:

Is it? Sky News knocking on someone’s door is the same as whether an MP should accept the rules of Parliament?

That’s quite a jumble.

An animated Jenrick looked incredibly uncomfortable throughout this. Still, the excuses he offered were nowhere near as confounding as those which came from London mayor hopeful Laila Cunningham.

If you don’t want to watch the above, Cunningham argued that Farage was not β€˜politically active’ when he was the chairman of Reform in 2024. Her argument was that it’s not a political role to chair and promote a political party (!?).

As we noted above, it doesn’t matter either way, because he still had to declare his relevant interests from the prior 12 months anyway when he became an MP.

Jenrick (again)

Back to Jenrick, the man had another car crash interview, as Farrukh commented:

He focuses on political accountability (MPs to constituents) and tries to dismiss standards accountability (whether rules have been broken)

He plays a tragic victim card saying that Nigel Farage loves his job in Clacton, when he’s rarely there, doesn’t hold in-person surgeries and can’t even be bothered to turn up to parliament

He repeatedly says Farage has not broken any rules, even though Farage didn’t declare a Β£5m gift, then made multiple explanations for what that was for: security, reward for Brexit – the dishonesty and inconsistency speaking volumes

He tries to validate Nigel Farage’s innocence based on whether he’ll be re-elected as MP, opposed to whether he’s broken any standards

That’s like saying, a company director is accused of fraud, but someone argues: β€˜The only people who can judge him are the shareholders. If they keep him as CEO, that proves he did nothing wrong’

I guess now the Conservatives have said they won’t take Jenrick back, even though he was a Conservative MP for over 11 years, he’s got no option other than to go full hog with Reform UK

Socials murder

Reform UK has been having a nightmare online as well as off. Zia Yusuf, for instance, has decided to solely type in block capitals now, like Donald Trump circa. 2018.

Explaining the above, Farage accusedΒ Sky News of harassing his daughter. The video he himself posted to prove this, however, did not seem to demonstrate harassment withΒ Sky News stating:

Clarification: Sky News was not at the property at 7.41am. As has already been acknowledged, and as shown in the footage from 10.19am, Sky News was outside a property where Mr Farage was registered to vote at the last election. Sky News did not interact with Mr Farage’s daughter.

On a single occasion, we approached the property without a camera operator, identified ourselves as Sky News, and the adult occupant chose not to engage. We were seeking to contact Mr Farage to ask questions about the gift he accepted from Mr Cottrell. This is a well-established and routine journalistic practice when reporting on matters of legitimate public interest.

The footage clearly demonstrates that Sky News did not β€œhound” or pursue Mr Farage’s daughter. At no stage did we seek to speak to anyone other than Mr Farage in connection with this story.

Bedlam for Reform

So it’s absolute chaos on the Reform front.

We’re not quite sure where they’re going with all this, but it no longer feels like they’re the likely next party of government.
