A report released Monday afternoon shows Minneapolis to be behind in its wide-ranging goals to improve policing, according to reporting from Minnesota Public Radio. In a letter included in the report, Department of Human Rights Commissioner Rebecca Lucero said Minneapolis police β€œremain far from achieving the transformational change necessary to address the root causes of race-based policing.” According to MPR, Lucero specifically called out flawed systems of accountability.Β

A recent poll of likely voters in Minnesota shows U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar leading her three potential Republican rivals in the race to become the state’s next governor. While Klobuchar polled well ahead of Lisa Demuth, Kendall Qualls and Mike Lindell, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported that she β€œis polling below her massive margins of victory in four past U.S. Senate elections.” The poll, conducted by The Star Tribune, KARE 11 and Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication, showed that a Democrat is also favored to win Sen. Tina Smith’s seat in the upcoming U.S. Senate race.

Steve Grove, CEO and publisher of the Minnesota Star Tribune, was interviewed on National Public Radio on Sunday about his company’s recent announcement that it is considering becoming a nonprofit. The idea, he said, β€œis to remain in a sort of for-profit orientation with subscriptions and digital advertising and events and other ways to raise revenue, but also really opening up a chance for others who care about journalism to donate philanthropically to it.”

Najmo Ahmed, who pleaded guilty in February 2025 to taking part in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, was sentenced in U.S. District Court on Monday to 14 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release, according to KSTP News. Ahmed’s sentence was shortened slightly from federal guidelines in part because she returned to the U.S. to face charges and helped facilitate the return of her husband, who also faces charges.Β

After helping to lead his New York Knicks to an NBA championship over the weekend, Karl-Anthony Towns, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ beloved center from 2015-24, shared some love with his former teammates, including Anthony Edwards, Sports Illustrated reported. β€œA huge shoutout to all the teammates I’ve had before coming here,” Towns told ESPN. β€œShoutout to my brother Anthony Edwards. Talking to him all the time. Those guys made me better. They made me a better leader, made me a better player, made me the man I am today. Forever grateful for them.”
