Mass Shooting At Humboldt Park Gathering Wounds 6, Police Say

HUMBOLDT PARK — A mass shooting at a large outdoor gathering early Sunday morning left six people wounded in Humboldt Park, according to police.

Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, a large crowd of people were standing outside in the 900 block of North Central Park Avenue when someone opened fire, striking six people, police said.

Two of the victims were critically injured after being shot multiple times, including a 35-year-old man being treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital and a 36-year-old man who was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to police.

The four other victims were all listed in good condition, including: a 33-year-old man who was shot in his finger and brought to Norwegian Hospital; a 39-year-old man who was shot twice in his thigh and taken to Stroger Hospital; a 46-year-old woman who was shot in her back and twice in her foot before she was taken to Stroger Hospital; and a 34-year-old woman was shot in her hip and treated at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

The shooting broke out near the intersection of West Augusta Boulevard and North Central Park Avenue, cutting a late-night party short, according to Brianna, a neighbor who preferred not to share her last name. The party’s aftermath was apparent later Sunday morning, where discarded liquor bottles could be seen strewn about the intersection.

“After the kids went home, the older adults were still hanging out,” she said. “It was just a lot of lingering outdoors, but everybody was in their own different group, and suddenly we just hear ‘bop bop bop bop’ and started running.”

Brianna said she didn’t know the victims and that her group was hanging out on the opposite end of the block.

Area detectives are investigating the shooting and no arrests have been made.
