Man arrested at Hong Kong airport over bomb scare remark, possessing stun gun and switchblade

Police have arrested a man at the airport over a false bomb threat he made to airline staff and possession of weapons.

Officers were called to the Hong Kong International Airport at around 8.30pm on Monday after an airline employee reported a man, who was arguing with the carrier’s staff, saying there was a bomb in his son’s suitcase.

When officers arrived, they found a stun gun, a switchblade and two suspected e-cigarettes on the 47-year-old man.

He was arrested on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance, possessing an offensive weapon, possessing imitation firearms and possessing Part 1 poison.

The man was released on bail.

Local media reported that the man is American and was having a dispute with staff from HK Express.

A photo shared on Facebook and published by local media outlets showed around a dozen police officers at the HK Express check-in counters at the airport.
