Live Shots: Metric rode the indie sleaze revival to a triumphant return

After 10 albums and some 25 years on the road, synth-rock standard-bearers of what we now call “indie sleaze” (at least the more poetic side of the retroactively named genre), Metric have their show down. The Canadian group skipped among tracks from its May album Romanticize the Dive and smudged-eyeliner fan faves during its June 21 show at the Masonic, part of an 18-date tour with fellow Canucks Broken Social Scene and Stars. Both Metric’s new and old were well-received by the keyed-up, predominately Gen X-Millennial crowd ready to relive their youth, Father’s Day Sunday be damned. This band is nothing but consistent, its members’ rapport evident onstage despite the years, and with its recent output calling back as cleanly to the aughts as the black tights under cheeky high-waisted shorts frontperson Emily Haines rather masterfully sported. —Caitlin Donohue
