Late-Night Jazz Is Coming Back To The Green Mill

UPTOWN β The Green Mill is welcoming back late-night jazz on Fridays and Saturdays starting this weekend as the historic Uptown club officially welcomes new ownership.Β
Music will play until 4 a.m. Fridays and 5 a.m. Saturdays, restoring pre-COVID hours as owner Dave Jemilo hands over the reins to Jason Cole and Jill Skintges, both longtime employees.
The historic watering hole at 4802 N. Broadway β said to be the countryβs longest-running jazz club β dates back to 1907.
The club is celebrating 40 years of Jemiloβs ownership on Friday before starting a new chapter under Cole and Skintges with the first night of late-night jazz since 2020.Β
Despite the change in ownership, Cole told Block Club that he and Skintges βwant to keep it going the exact same wayβ with familiar events such as organ nights and poetry open mics.
βIf anything, maybe bring it back more to how it was pre-COVID,β Cole said.
Chicagoβs Sabertooth jazz quartet will take the stage Friday for an early set, followed by a late-night jam session. Sabertooth has been playing at the Green Mill for over 20 years.
Hosted by jazz trumpeter Marquis Hill, the jam session welcomes people βwho want to meet up and play music,β Cole said, whether that be musicians or service industry workers just ending their shift.
Saturdays will also have late-night music with doors open until 5 a.m. and a jazz organ trio β another longtime tradition of the Green Mill.
βWeβve always been so Green Mill,β Cole said. βOur attitude has never really changed.β
