Kennedy Park Pool Opens Thursday After Faulty Liner Fixed

MORGAN PARK β After almost a week-long delay, Kennedy Parkβs pool will open for the summer on Thursday.
Kennedy Park, 11320 S. Western Ave., features a 50-meter, six-lane pool, and was scheduled to open Friday, but an issue with its liner that was discovered the night before forced a delay.
Repairs over the past week have fixed the problem and the Chicago Park District told Block Club the pool will be staffed and opened to the public on Thursday.
Thursdayβs schedule includes a full-day of activities, including: summer camp swim from 9:15-10:45 a.m.; open swim from 10:45-11:45 a.m.; senior swim from 11:45a.m.-12:30p.m.; camp swim from 12:45-2 p.m.; teen swim from 2-3:15 p.m.; open swim from 3:15-4:15 p.m.; senior swim from 4:15-5:30 p.m.; and lap swim from 5:45-7 p.m.

After fixing the liner, the Park District began to refill the pool on Monday, a process that takes multiple days before tests on the repairs could be conducted, according to Rebecca Medrano, supervisor at the park.
Most Chicago pools opened Friday, a week earlier than usual.
A Park District spokesperson previously told Block Club pool facilities may close intermittently throughout the season as issues arise and maintenance is needed. Park-goers should check their local poolβs webpage before visiting for any updates to a poolβs current swim status.
