Kennedy Park Pool Isnβt Open For The Summer Yet Due To Faulty Liner

MORGAN PARK β Pools across Chicago opened on Friday, a week earlier than normal, but Morgan Park residents looking to go for a swim at Kennedy Park may have been surprised to find the pool closed over the holiday weekend.
Kennedy Park, 11320 S. Western Ave., features a 50-meter, six-lane outdoor pool. The pool is currently closed, however, due to an issue with its liner, said Rebecca Medrano, supervisor at the park.
The poolβs liner broke Thursday evening, just hours before it was scheduled to open on Friday. An update on the Chicago Park Districtβs website says the Kennedy Park pool will have a delayed opening date due to ongoing repairs and maintenance.
Medrano said the liner has been repaired and the Park District started to refill the pool Monday morning. The filling process typically takes a few days. Once filled, the Park District will conduct tests on the repairs before issuing an update on the poolβs status and opening timeline, she said.
A Park District spokesperson said pool facilities may close intermittently throughout the season as issues arise and maintenance is needed. Park-goers should check their local poolβs webpage before visiting for any updates to a poolβs current swim status.

The Kennedy Park website directs residents to visit nearbyΒ Ada Park PoolΒ orΒ Mt. Greenwood Park Pool while its facility undergoes repairs.
The Kennedy Park poolβs summer schedule often includes times for open swims, families, youth and teen swim, lap swims and summer camps.
A number of other Park District pools are closed for repairs, including Hamlin Park in Roscoe Village and Cornell Square Park in Back of the Yards, whose pools are scheduled to open this week, a spokesperson said. Tuley, Holstein, Union and Jefferson Park pools are slated to open in July.
