It’s Time to Vote

The August primary is upon us. Tomorrow at 8 pm is the deadline to cast your vote and have a say in myriad state legislative races, state Supreme Court races, a levy to fund the libraries (that, somehow, the Seattle Times editorial board doesn’t support), and, depending on where you live, a county or city council election or two. Voting is not only sexy, it’s important! You better do it. 

If you’ve waited this long to vote, do not put that ballot into a mailbox or drop it off at the post office. It’s too late for that. Due to new postmarking standards at the US Postal Service, King County Elections (KCE) recommends mailing your ballot at least a week before the Aug. 4 primary. That was last week. So, unless you have a time machine, you’ll be dropping your ballot in your nearest drop box.

“As always, drop boxes are the absolute best way to get your ballot back to KCE in the final days,” Halei Watkins, a spokesperson with KCE, says. “Drop boxes close at 8 pm sharp on Election Day and if your ballot is in the box, you know it will be counted as on-time.”

The great news is that ballot boxes are all over the county—91 as of this primary election. That’s six more than last time! And by the general election, there will be nine more. Use this map to find the closest box.
