GREATER GRAND CROSSING β€” Detectives are investigating after a person’s remains were found Monday in a garbage can on the South Side, police said.

The remains were found 9:25 a.m. Monday inside a garbage can in an alley in the 300 block of East 68th Street, police said.

Streets and Sanitation workers were clearing trash in the Greater Grand Crossing alley when they saw human body parts in the garbage truck, according to the Tribune. A police report described the remains as two skeletonized legs and parts of a skull, according to the Tribune.

Detectives are conducting a death investigation pending results of an autopsy, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The discovery comes two weeks after a woman’s body was found in another South Side alley.

The body of a woman identified as Zenobia Weatherspoon was found July 11 inside a garbage can in Back of the Yards. Local officials have called for a full investigation into her death and canvassed the neighborhood with community violence intervention workers to provide support to neighbors.
