Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate get into the ring

With primaries just two weeks from today, Angie Craig and Peggy Flanagan sought to draw distinctions between their positions on a host of issues at their second debate as they vie to be the next DFL candidate for U.S. Senate. 

The biggest talking points revolved around AIPAC, ICE’s surge in Minnesota and the latest kerfuffle around whether Craig asked lawmaker John Hoffman for his endorsement while he was still in the hospital after being shot by Vance Boelter.

In the grand scheme of things, the two are pretty tightly aligned, but there are points of distinction to be made between their positions.

The social workers’ strike in Chisago County is stretching into its third month with little to no sign of the two sides coming to an agreement. Roughly 90 of the 120 workers striking are in child protective services or help residents access important resources. It is now the longest county worker’s strike in state history.

Mayor Kaohly Her is considering a combination of options to close a $26 million budget shortfall in St. Paul but sees no way forward that won’t involve some kind of increase in property taxes.

First there was heat, then heat with wildfire smoke, then back to just heat, and now we’ve got heat and humidity thanks to something called corn sweat? Not to be confused with the chap who plays Superman.

After going 0-4 in championship games since their founding in 1999, the Minnesota Vixen — the oldest continuously operating women’s football team in the country — have secured the WFA title with a 42-14 win over the Pittsburgh Passion.
