A bevy of new laws are set to take effect in Minnesota on August 1. The most significant are likely the banning of crypto kiosks and prediction markets in the state, but don’t sleep on the update for telemedicine in veterinary practice, which allows licensed veterinarians to dispense prescription drugs without a prior veterinarian-client-patient relationship under specific conditions. Beware of huskies selling black market Apoquel on the corners of your local dog park.

As a northerly state (Minneapolis is at a higher latitude than Toronto, you know), Minnesota would experience quite a swing if permanent Daylight Savings Time ever becomes a thing. Our latest sunrise in winter would be a shocking 8:51 a.m.! The U.S. actually tried this once before in 1974 in the midst of (another) energy crisis. What happened?

β€œAccording to a report by History, a survey found that support for year-round daylight saving time dropped from 79% to just 42% in a matter of two months.”

Did you know: The natural range of the common loon is the yin to the yang of the 13-lined ground squirrel’s yang.

The gopher or 13-lined ground squirrel does not have any official status with the State of Minnesota despite the nickname β€œThe Gopher State” and it being the mascot of the University of MN. Still, it’s interesting that the 13-lined ground squirrel and the Common Loon have complementary MN ranges.

Enjoy your fake fall while you can because we’re headed back to the β€˜90s this weekend, and I don’t mean puka necklaces and sleeveless flannel. Stay cool with the help of this handy bike tour of 25 Twin Cities’ ice cream shops. And if you’re within biking distance of Beaver Bay, I heartily endorse Two One Ate’s ice cream offerings. Start with the black raspberry.

When it was announced that Lynx forward Napheesa Collier would miss significant time this season after double ankle surgery, it did not bode well for a franchise accustomed to consistent success. But the emergence of rookie Olivia Miles has helped spur the team to a league-leading record of 22-6 heading into the All-Star Break. In her first game back, Collier showed little rust against the Storm, dropping 24 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes. The rest of the league should be very, very worried.
