3 Killed, 1 Wounded In Separate Hyde Park Shootings Thursday Night

HYDE PARK β€” Three people were killed and a fourth wounded in two shootings just hours apart Thursday in Hyde Park, police said.

In the first shooting, which took place about 5:30 p.m. Thursday along the Midway Plaisance, a 27-year-old woman and 24-year-old man were killed. They were found inside a car on the 5900 block of South Ellis Avenue, each with one gunshot wound to their head, police said.

A weapon was found at the scene, and the victims were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead, police said.

About 11 p.m., a 25-year-old man was killed and a 25-year-old woman was wounded in a drive-by shooting near Promontory Point. They were sitting in a parked car in the 5400 block of South Shore Drive when someone shot at them multiple times from another car, police said.

The man was shot in his stomach and pronounced dead at UChicago Medical Center, while the woman was shot in her right shoulder and taken to UChicago in fair condition, police said.

In nearby South Shore, two more people were wounded Thursday in shootings two hours and two blocks apart.

About 8 p.m., a 67-year-old man accidentally shot himself in his leg in the 6700 block of South Cornell Avenue, according to a preliminary police investigation.

About 10:15 p.m., a 36-year-old man was shot in his leg while sitting in his parked car in the 6900 block of South Cornell Avenue. The man took himself to UChicago hospital and was listed in good condition, police said.
