BEVERLY β€” A severe storm that ripped through Beverly and Morgan Park Wednesday night caused significant damage, including reports of flooding and power outages.

The storm left 1,800 homes without power, over 75 β€œtree emergencies,” 14 damaged street light poles and 16 reports of downed wires across the area, Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) said in an email to constituents.

The number of homes without power was down to about 200 by noon Thursday, O’Shea said.

Neighbors shared photos of flooded streets and sidewalks and of numerous downed trees. Much of the flooding appeared to have subsided by late Thursday morning.

One video shared with NBC Chicago shows a car driving down a Beverly residential street get hit by a large falling tree branch. The driver was unharmed, a person identifying herself as the daughter of the car’s driver said on Facebook.

A Block Club reporter spotted crews from the Department of Streets and Sanitation working throughout the neighborhood Thursday to address blocked streets and sidewalks, as well as the Department of Transportation working to repair street light poles.

O’Shea said he will continue working with the city agencies to address the damage. He urged residents who spot a fallen tree or branch or who see storm damage to contact 311.

Wednesday’s storm came two weeks after a major storm swept through the city and caused widespread damage on the Far Southwest Side.

Following that storm, the 19th Ward saw 5,000 homes and businesses without power, 150 tree emergencies and over 20 traffic signals knocked out of service.
